BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 10 Florida Atlantic University beach volleyball team punched its ticket to the NCAA Championship on Selection Saturday. This marks the Owls’ first NCAA berth in school history.
The Owls are the No. 8 seed and are set to face No. 9-seed Stanford on Wednesday, May 4 at 10 a.m. FAU and TCU were the two at-large teams selected from the east region and Grand Canyon and UCLA were the west region choices. Cal, Hawaii, LSU and Stanford were the four teams who received at-large bids to the championship.
“We are so incredibly excited!” said head coach Capri Grotowski. “This is the accumulation of many years of hard work from every player, coach and staff member that has helped FAU Beach get to this point. We have been so close in previous years, and being selected is an amazing feeling. I am looking forward to watching this team compete again!”
The first round of the championship will be held Wednesday, May 4 with all 16 participants facing off in a single elimination bracket. The advancing eight teams will compete Friday through Sunday, May 6 to 8 in a double elimination format. The championship will take place in Gulf Shores, Ala., hosted by the City of Gulf Shores, UAB and Orange Beach Sports and Events.
