SAINTS WR CHRIS OLAVE & JAGUARS LB DEVIN LLOYD
NAMED NFL ROOKIES OF THE MONTH FOR SEPTEMBER
Wide receiver CHRIS OLAVE of the New Orleans Saints and linebacker DEVIN LLOYD of the Jacksonville Jaguars are the NFL Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Month for the month of September.
OFFENSE: WR CHRIS OLAVE, NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
- Olave led all rookies with 268 receiving yards and ranked second with 17 receptions in three games during September. He was the only rookie with at least five receptions and 80 receiving yards in multiple games.
- Olave joins wide receiver Marques Colston (October, 2006) and running backs Reggie Bush (December, 2006) and Alvin Kamara (November, 2017) as the only Saints to win Offensive Rookie of the Month.
- He joins Ezekiel Elliott (October, 2016) and Eddie George (September, 1996) as the only former Ohio State players to earn Offensive Rookie of the Month honors.
DEFENSE: LB DEVIN LLOYD, JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS
- Lloyd led all rookies with 24 tackles (eight per game) and six passes defensed and was one of two rookies to record two interceptions during the month of September. He was the only player in the NFL to record three passes defensed in two of the first three games of the season.
- Lloyd is the fifth Jaguars defensive rookie to win the award, joining Tony Brackens (December, 1996), Donovin Darius (November, 1998), Clint Ingram (November, 2006) and Rashean Mathis (November, 2003).
- Lloyd joins running back Mike Anderson (September and December, 2000) as the only former Utah Utes to earn Rookie of the Month honors.
