OMAHA, Neb. – As the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan get closer, so do the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – the premier swimming event to determine who will reach Tokyo and compete as a member of Team USA in July.
Twenty-three current and former Gators will make the trip to Omaha, Nebraska this week to realize Olympic dreams or repeat as Olympians. The trials run from Sunday, June 13 to June 20 at the CHI Health Center in Omaha.

There are seven Gators in the top ten of their respective events and three former Gators in the top 10 of their events.
Top two in each event will make the Olympic team and in the 100 free and 200 free the top six.
Three new races will be added to the Olympic program in Tokyo: the women’s 1,500 free, the men’s 800 and the 4×100 mixed medley relay.
Team USA swimmers will be chasing their 250th gold medal in Tokyo; they currently have 246 gold medals.
The 2020 U.S. Olympic Swimming Team is estimated to have up to 52 athletes. Final selections to the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team are subject to U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee approval.

Former Gators to Watch For
Caeleb Dressel, the face of USA Swimming, is looking to make his second Olympic team this week. Coming into the trials Dressel is ranked first in the 50 free, 100 free, and that 100 fly. Dressel also ranks in the top 15 in the 200 Fly, 200 Free, and 200 IM.
Ryan Lochte will be trying for his fifth Olympic team heading into these trials. He ranks fifth in the 200 IM, 13th in the 200 back, and 15th in the 400 IM.
Incoming Gators to Watch For
Two incoming Gators will also be participating in wave two at the Olympic trials. Mason Laur will be in the 200 fly and he is currently ranked 37th in that event.
Micayla Cronk is the other incoming Gator to watch for as she is in three events is wave two at the trails. Cronk will be competing in the 50 free (43rd), 100 free (38th), and the 200 free (61st).
