Renaissance Festival gets underway at Quiet Waters Park

The Florida Renaissance Festival got underway at Quiet Waters Park on Feb. 5. People who come over the next few weekends will be able to escape into the world of Old Europe. They will be able to eat turkey legs and other food, enjoyed music and dance presentations, dress as figures from Renaissance Europe or have fun with family and friends. Chris Bagnall, a leader of the History of Chivalry was pleased to a be a part of the Festival. His organization holds medieval style combats where people dressed in armor participate in combats. People fight until one person is too exhausted to go on. Members of History of Chivalry get together to participate their fighting skills and learn about old Europe.

Members of the Royal Artillery gave a presentation on black powder cannons. The cannons they use are real and fire projectiles. “We are showing cannons as they were from the tenth century until the 17th century,” said Kevin McCarthy of the Royal Artillery. There was also a jousting event.

There was also a presentation showing how life was in the old Ottoman Empire. Members of this encampment showed how people lived during the days of this famous by often misunderstood empire.

Many people came dressed in Renaissance attire and had some fun. Some dressed as kings and queens. Others dressed as pirates. Many people also enjoyed throwing axes or shooting arrows. There were hand powered rides for children.
