Hello South Florida Tribune fans! It’s hot in the east coast and of course I’m hot under the collar when it comes to a particular part of sports and today what I don’t like and have never liked are professional athletes in the Olympics!
In my younger days and that goes way back, but I remember a time when the Olympics was a spotlight to new faces that become overnight superstars like Mark Spitz and Bruce Jenner and of course who can forget Nadia Comanechi.
In 1992 when the first dream team was formed it sounded great and everyone knew we would destroy everyone. Why are we allowing this? Is it entertainment? What about the All Star game? Don’t get me wrong I’m very proud when our country wins a medal and represent us, but not professional athletes? Isn’t that why they stripped Jim Thorpe of his medals?
I love the Olympics and especially the summer ones. I love it because of the new stars that emerge. If I wanted to see NBA stars or NHL stars I’d watch professional sports not the Olympics. Let me know what you think? Until we meet again.
