Pompano Beach to launch road improvement project

From David Volz

The City of Pompano Beach is advancing its commitment to safer, more accessible roadways with the launch of Segment 3 of the Atlantic Boulevard and Dixie Highway Improvements Project.

This Complete Streets initiative will begin March 24th and extends along Dixie Highway from Atlantic Boulevard north to E. Copans Road, delivering enhanced mobility, safety, and aesthetics.

The project will introduce protected bike lanes, improving multimodal connectivity for cyclists. In addition, the corridor will undergo significant landscaping and beautification, mirroring the enhancements completed at Atlantic Boulevard and Dixie Highway.

“This project continues our efforts to improve mobility and enhance the overall experience for residents and visitors,” said Rex Hardin, Mayor of Pompano Beach. “By integrating safety improvements, landscaping, and upgraded infrastructure, we are creating a more efficient and attractive corridor for all to enjoy.”

The key project improvements include:

Drainage reconstruction with ADA-compliant upgrades

Decorative lighting for enhanced visibility and safety

New curb and gutter to improve roadway function

Pavement restoration, including milling and resurfacing

Median landscaping and shade trees to enhance the corridor’s aesthetics

Updated signing and pavement markings for improved wayfinding and safety

This initiative supports Pompano Beach’s ongoing efforts to create a safer, more accessible, and visually appealing transportation network.

Prior to construction, messaging boards will be strategically placed at various locations to advise the public of upcoming construction and suggest alternate routes.

This phase of construction is expected to take approximately three months to complete. Construction updates will continue to be provided to the public as the project progresses.

The $5 million FDOT funding, alongside $27 million from the Broward County Transportation Surtax Fund, the City’s General Obligation (GO) Bond, and the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), have made this vital project possible. It marks a major step toward revitalizing the Atlantic Boulevard and Dixie Highway corridor as the new signature entrance to Pompano Beach.
