Pompano Beach approves new water taxi service

From David Volz

The City of Pompano Beach has approved a new water taxi service, with an anticipated official full-time launch date of December 16, 2024.

Partnering with Water Taxi of Fort Lauderdale, this popular service will offer convenient transportation throughout our City’s coastal community. It now will connect with popular destinations all the way from Lighthouse Point to Hollywood.

The decision to embark on this project was passed unanimously by the City Commission, and the service is being funded by a $1.2 million grant from FDOT and a $876,000 grant from the American Rescue Plan Act. Full details about routes, tickets, resident passes, and more will be available in the coming weeks at www.watertaxi.com.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Water Taxi to bring Pompano Beach residents this exciting and convenient transportation option,” said Mayor Rex Hardin. “Thanks to the hard work of City staff, the majority of the costs are covered by grants, making this a win-win for everyone!”

Residents can anticipate seeing the water taxis in the vicinity during the upcoming weeks as they prepare for the soft launch in early December and their participation in the Holiday Boat Parade.

The proposed operation hours are 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with 128 daily stops and running 362 days a year. Ticket prices will range from $15 to $30 for adults, with resident multi-day passes for $80 and resident annual passes for $250.

The City has added more stops to the route to include:
