Since the signing of free-agent superstar Patrick Kane, the Detroit Red Wings fan base is
eagerly awaiting his looming debut. Kane, 35, is coming off off-season hip surgery. An injury that
has hindered him during his time with the Chicago Blackhawks and the New York Rangers
during their playoff run in 2022. The Winger put up 5 goals, 7 assists and 12 points in just 19
games for “The Broadway Blueshirts”
When asked about how he’s feeling Kane said the difference is night and day.
“I feel a lot better than compared to last year,” Kane said. “Just the ability to put
weight on the right leg and shift weight side to side. Also, just my lateral movement is
better. Crossovers, left over right, were a struggle for me last year. That feels good as
well. I think I’m in a good spot.”
Now, 6 months removed, Kane could make his debut as early as next week. Highlighting
the December 5th road game against the Buffalo Sabres and the December 7th home game
against the San Jose Sharks as a possible return. Kane said,
“You get out there this morning and you’re skating and you feel like you can get out there
and play,” Kane says. “But I think just in general, talking to the training staff and Steve
(Yzerman) and the coaches, we probably want to give it a little more time, get me up to
speed, get in a few practices with the team. Don’t rush into it.”
Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde said, “I think we’ll be cautious with it and get a feel
on how he is with everything too, but obviously he’s eager,” Lalonde said.
