Valby finished runner-up at the 2022 NCAA Championships and earned All-American honors for her performance
GAINESVILLE, Fla.- Florida Gator All-American Parker Valby was announced as a finalist for the 2023 Honda Sport Award for Cross Country on Monday.
The Honda Sport Award has been presented annually by the CWSA for the past 46 years to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA- sanctioned sports and signifies “the best of the best in collegiate athletics”. The sports award winner becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2022 Honda Cup, which will be presented on a telecast on CBS Sports Network.
This honor comes as Valby had posted a historic season for the Gators. She finished as the SEC Women’s runner of the year, the NCAA Women’s Individual runner-up, SEC Women’s Individual Champion, and the NCAA South Regional Individual Champion. Valby also added All-American, All-Region, and SEC All-First Team honors for her performances. Her four performances this season mark the first, third, fourth, and fifth fastest times in school history in the 6K, and her time of 18:25.87 at the SEC Championship was the fastest 6K time on record in history at any championship event.
The Honda Sport award winner for cross country will be announced later this week after voting by administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Each NCAA member institution has a vote.
