Owls Win on Another Walk-Off

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University softball team pulled out another walk-off win on Sunday. A Riley Ennis base hit to right center plated Sara Berthiaume in the bottom of the seventh and gave FAU a 3-2 win over Illinois State, the Owls’ 14th win of the year and third walk-off victory of the season.

With Sunday’s win, the Owls have now won five in a row, closing out the Owl Classic at 5-1 on the weekend. FAU also won via the walk-off on Thursday against Oakland.

GAME RECAP

It took only two batters for the Owls to get on the board, as Jesiana Mora drove in Cammeo Presutti right away in the bottom of the first with an RBI double to left center.

The Owls strung together baserunners in the second inning to push another run over. Maddie Carlock was hit by a pitch, then Presutti reached on a bunt single. Mora delivered another base hit which advanced each runner up one station. Berthiaume then earned a tough RBI as she was hit by the pitch to make it 2-0 FAU.

FAU starting pitcher Ainsley Lambert was cruising along, until Illinois State finally broke through with two unearned runs in the fifth inning. Lambert was lifted for Lynn Gardner with one out in the fifth inning. With a runner on third and one out, a fly ball was hit to Riley Olson in right, and she threw out the Illinois State baserunner at home to keep the game tied at 2-2.

In the seventh, Berthiaume led off with a base knock, then advanced to second with some heads-up base running on a fly out. Maya Amm worked a walk, then Ennis slapped a base hit to right field to provide the heroics and give the Owls another walk-off win.
