HOUSTON, Texas – The Florida Atlantic University baseball team (16-10, 3-3 C-USA) continues a four-game road trip in Houston, Texas against Rice (8-18, 3-3 C-USA). The Owls took two of three from UTSA last weekend to get back to .500 in conference play.
OWLS IN REVIEW

FAU ran into a buzzsaw on Tuesday night in Orlando. UCF scored nine runs on the Owls in the second inning in route to a 13-1 final. The Owls used eight pitchers total, five of whom didn’t allow an earned run. Dylan Goldstein hit a solo home run to account for all the FAU offense. Goldstein finished 3-for-3. Tyler Kelder also had another multi-hit game.

Goldstein is 7-for-8 over the last two outings and has reached base in 20 consecutive games. Armando Albert has been solid hitting out of the leadoff spot. The sophomore has reached base in 23 straight games. Nolan Schanuel has 12 multi-hit games and at least one hit in 24 of 26.
THE OWLS’ OPPONENT

Rice is coming off a 12-10 loss to Texas A&M-CC on Wednesday night. The Owls dropped two of three to UAB on the opening conference weekend and won two of three against Marshall in their second C-USA series.

Rice got off to a slow offensive start in 2022 but the bats have come alive recently. They’ve scored six or more runs in nine of the last 10 games. Sophomore Guy Garibay Jr. leads the team with 21 RBI. Freshman Aaron Smigelski and senior Austin Bulman are tied with six home runs.

FAU is likely to see Cooper Chandler on the mound for Rice on Friday night. Chandler shut down UAB for six innings on March 18 and held Marshall to two runs in six frames last Friday. Out of the bullpen, Matthew Linskey hasn’t conceded a run in 11 appearances this season.
