Charlotte, N.C. – The final regular-season series for the Florida Atlantic University softball team will take place at Charlotte this weekend. The Owls and 49ers will square off in a three-game set from May 6-8. Friday’s game has been moved up to a 1 p.m. start time due to the threat of inclement weather in the Charlotte area.
TIGHT STANDINGS

The race for first place in the Conference USA East Division is coming down to the final series of the year. FAU’s 14-7 C-USA record currently ties WKU and Marshall for the top spot in the east. These teams are all just one game back of the top spot in the conference, with North Texas and Louisiana Tech holding a 15-6 conference mark.

In the C-USA Championship Tournament, the top two teams receive a double bye, while the third and four seeds earn a single bye. The C-USA Championship Tournament will be held at North Texas from May 11-14.
OWLS WITH PAIR OF COMEBACKS

Last weekend, FAU swept UTSA, and the Owls took the last two in come from behind fashion. In game two, FAU trailed 10-3 heading into the seventh inning but used a miraculous comeback to steal a game from the Roadrunners. FAU put together seven runs on five hits, capped off by a game-tying two-RBI double from Sara Berthiaume. FAU completed the improbable comeback with a Kaitlyn Cunningham walk-off single in the eighth inning.

On Sunday, the Owls trailed 3-0 heading into the sixth inning, but scored two runs on an error. In the seventh, Sommer Baker laid down a bunt that the UTSA pitcher threw away. The ball went all the way into the right field corner. Cameryn Orland scored from first, and Baker rounded the bases for another wild walk-off win. FAU has five walk-off wins this season.

SERIES HISTORY

FAU is 17-9 against Charlotte all-time in this head-to-head series. Charlotte took three out of four against the Owls last year.
