Owls Rally, but Fall Short Against Charlotte

RUSTON, La. – In the Conference USA Championship Tournament, the Florida Atlantic University softball team was narrowly defeated by Charlotte, 4-3. The 49ers jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but the Owls came back with three runs in the sixth inning.

Jesiana Mora led off the sixth inning and woke up the Owl offense with a solo shot to right field. Next up was Olivia Peterson who singled through the left side, then two batters later, Maya Amm drove in Peterson with a triple to the right field corner which cut the deficit to 4-2.


Caryssa Orland kept the offense going with a bloop single to left field which scored Amm. The Owls were not able to get the equalizing run in the seventh inning, as Charlotte held on to the win.

Florida Atlantic will now play the No. 2 seed UAB in an elimination game tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. ET / 9 a.m. CT.

STATS & NOTES

  • Amm has put forward a strong two games in the C-USA tournament, hitting 3-5 with four RBI and a run scored
  • Mora is also swinging a hot bat, with a 3-7, three-RBI and two runs scored line
  • Gabby Sacco took only her seventh loss of the season, going three innings with three runs allowed, all solo homers. Sacco’s record now stands at 19-7
  • Ainsley Lambert entered in relief of Sacco and went the final three innings with four strikeouts and only one run allowed, also a solo homer
