Owls Held in Check by Gators

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball was held in check in an 11-0 defeat at the hands of No. 6 Florida on Wednesday night.

THE BEGINNING

After posting 11 runs on Tuesday, the FAU bats went cold in game two. Nolan Schanuel and Jackson Ross each singled with two outs in the first inning but that would be the end of the offense for the night. The Owls managed just two more baserunners via an error and a walk.

Florida opened the scoring with a bases loaded single in the third inning. They tacked on three in each of the fourth and fifth frames to lead 7-0.

THE FINISH

After Robert Wegielnik held the Gators scoreless in the sixth and seventh, UF loaded the bases again in the eighth against Tibur Rivero. Jac Caglianone lined a walk-off grand slam to right field to end the game on the run-rule.

THE ARMS

  • Freshman Tyler Murphy made his first career start for the Owls and tossed two scoreless innings.
  • Max Martzolf took the loss. He allowed three earned runs in two innings.
  • Wegielnik struck out two in his two innings.

WHAT’S NEXT

The Owls will begin a four-game series with Harvard  at home on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
