BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Florida Atlantic baseball fell behind early on Saturday and could not mount a comeback in a 10-5 defeat at hands of UAB.
THE BEGINNING
UAB took a 1-0 lead on a Christian Hall solo home run in the first inning. The Blazers then put the Owls in a deep hole with a seven-run second. A grand slam off the bat of Hall served as the big blow.
THE TURNING POINT
The Owls chipped away in the sixth and seventh. Two-run homers from Christian Adams and Jackson Ross cut the deficit in half.
FAU loaded the bases in the eighth and scored one run when Dylan Goldstein was hit by a pitch, but a strikeout of John Schroeder ultimately ended the threat.
THE FINISH
UAB scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth to effectively put the game out of reach.
THE ARMS
- The Owls used six pitchers starting with Brandon Smith.
- Evan Waterbor completed the second and pitched a clean third.
- Nicholas Del Prado and Bryan Boully held the Blazers scoreless in the fifth and sixth.
- Danny Trehey allowed two runs in the eighth before Hunter Cooley entered to put out the fire.
THE BATS
- Adams finished 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
- Schanuel was held without a hit but walked twice to extend his reached-base streak to 51 games.
