BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University student-athletes have established a culture of academic excellence. Despite the drastic changes to college life that COVID-19 forced upon college campuses nationally, FAU student-athletes adapted to the new methods of learning and posted a collective 3.105 GPA, the athletic program’s 11th consecutive semester with an average GPA of 3.0 or better.
“We’re very proud of the achievement of our student-athletes in the classroom this past semester and throughout the past few years,” said Brian White, FAU’s vice president and director of athletics. “Putting together a streak like this is impressive and is a testament to the academic culture of success that has been built and continues to grow within FAU Athletics. Our student-athletes, coaches and staff deserve to be recognized for this accomplishment.”
In total, six men’s teams were above a 3.0 with men’s tennis leading the charge with a 3.375. On the women’s side, nine teams posted a 3.0 or above, led by beach volleyball, who posted a 3.741. In total 14 teams posted above a 3.2 GPA. Of the 434 student-athletes who represent FAU, 273 posted above a 3.0 GPA, with 78.33% of the 141 female student-athletes and 62.76% of the 293 male student-athletes above the mark. A perfect 4.0 was achieved by 27 student-athletes, 24 of which were named to the President and Dean’s Lists. An additional nine, 33 in total, earned a spot on the Dean’s List.
“The accomplishments of our student-athletes in the classroom last semester and over the past few years should be commended,” said Eric Coleman, FAU’s senior associate athletics director for academics and student development. “Both our Owl student-athletes and our academic staff should be congratulated for their great efforts throughout what has continued to be a challenging time.”
