During the July 20th meeting, the Oakland Park City Commission approved a preliminary decrease of the operating millage rate to 5.8550 from 5.8890 mills. This would be the lowest millage rate for Oakland Park in over a decade, and the eighth time the City has lowered the rate in the past nine years. Since FY 2014, the City has reduced the millage rate 0.5445 mills, saving taxpayers over $10 million. The proposed budget for FY23 includes $30.2 million for Capital Improvement Projects and funding for more than 150 initiatives to support public safety, infrastructure improvements, financial stability, and parks and leisure activities. Public hearings for the FY23 budget are scheduled to take place Wednesday, Sept. 7, and Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 6:30 p.m. A hearing for the fire, stormwater, and residential solid waste assessments will take place on Monday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m.
