The Golden Grizzlies will travel overseas Aug. 22 through Sept. 2
ROCHESTER, Mich. — The Oakland men’s basketball team has officially begun its 10 practices in preparation for its upcoming trip to Greece which takes place Aug. 22 through Sept. 2.
Every four years, the NCAA allows programs to take a foreign tour and grants them to hold 10 additional practices and play exhibition games against international competition.
The Golden Grizzlies will compete in four games during their 10-day trip, spending three days in the cities of Corinth and Athens, plus four days on the island of Mykonos.
- Game 1: Aug. 24 vs. AEK BC U21 team (10 a.m. ET)
- Game 2: Aug. 25 vs. Oiakas Nafplioy BC (5 a.m. ET)
- Game 3: Aug. 31 vs. Rethymno Cretan Kings at OAKA Stadium (11 a.m. ET)
- Game 4: Sept. 1 vs. PAO BC U21 team at OAKA Stadium (3:30 a.m. ET)
Oakland welcomes 10 newcomers to the 2019-20 squad including three transfers in Kevin Kangu, Daniel Oladapo and Rashad Williams. Christopher Gettelfinger, who signed last November to play for the Golden Grizzlies, will be joined by six other freshmen in Zach Goodline, Jackie Harris, Yusuf Jihad, Blake Lampman, Madison Monroe and Emmanuel Newsome.
The Golden Grizzlies return starters Xavier Hill-Mais (First Team All-Horizon League; 18.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game), Brad Brechting (9.5 points and 5.9 rebounds per game) and Tray Maddox Jr. (20 starts, 6.7 points per game). Kenny Pittman Jr. and Babatunde Sowunmi also each return for their sophomore seasons.
Oakland last traveled overseas in 2015 with a 10-day trip to Spain.
