Florida in NCAA Championships:
This is Florida’s 38th NCAA Championships’ appearance in the event’s 40-year history. Florida won the 2013, 2014 (tie) and 2015 NCAA titles.
Gators in 2022:
* Nation’s No. 3 total all-time, 198.775, advanced Gators to NCAA Championships semifinal. Nation’s top two all-around totals – 39.90 (Trinity Thomas) and 39.875 (Leanne Wong) also earned in NCAA Auburn Regional final.
* Swept 2022 Southeastern Conference titles. Claimed program’s 11th SEC Championship meet title at 198.20 (second highest in meet’s 41-year history and highest total in 26 seasons). Won its fourth consecutive SEC regular-season title (6-0-1). Third straight unbeaten SEC record for UF since every league team started meeting in regular-season action in 1992.
* Florida and Oklahoma lead all 2022 programs with six team totals among nation’s top 20. UF’s five: No. 1 (198.775), No. T2 (198.575), No. T7 (198.25), No. T9 (198.20), No. 17 (198.15) and No. T18 (198.125).
* 2022 SEC Gymnast of the Year is Trinity Thomas<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__floridagators.com_news_2022_3_23_gymnastics-2Dtrinity-2Dthomas-2Dis-2D2022-2Dsec-2Dgymnast-2Dof-2Dthe-2Dyear.aspx&d=DwIFAg&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=8Gf3MOAsVdt-tLZG8-H2X3lBSE29EZaDgqJTSku1r4tWVbS7V6xgSYBqFDnQVx_A&s=-bCJw4la0oknr7feR6U5iV4-5PG35YQoyL0agV5p1ys&e= >. Second such honor of career (2020, 2022). Four other Gators – Alyssa Baumann, Nya Reed, Megan Skaggs and Leanne Wong – joined her on 2022 All-SEC team. Thomas won SEC all-around, vault and floor titles; Wong claimed beam win.
* Four Gators (Nya Reed, Megan Skaggs, Trinity Thomas, Leanne Wong) earned 11 Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) All-America honors<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__floridagators.com_news_2022_3_24_gymnastics-2Dfour-2Dgators-2Dearn-2D2022-2Dwcga-2Dregular-2Dseason-2Dall-2Damerica-2Dhonors.aspx&d=DwIFAg&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=8Gf3MOAsVdt-tLZG8-H2X3lBSE29EZaDgqJTSku1r4tWVbS7V6xgSYBqFDnQVx_A&s=0coPREphLRl6SF7b57l7pZ9_pCHb2hPKLrvDzi5QolU&e= >. Thomas is nation’s only with first-team honors on each apparatus. Five gymnasts in nation with four or more All-America honors and UF is only team with two (Thomas, Wong).
* Four Gators turned in nation’s high of 15 10.0s in 2022 – Sloane Blakely – floor 1x; Nya Reed – floor 2x; Trinity Thomas – vault 3x; bars 1x, beam 1x; floor 5x; Leanne Wong – vault 1x, bars 1x. Thomas’ ten 10.0s tops all in 2022 NCAA action. She is the seventh in the 40 years of NCAA action with 10 or more perfect marks in a single season.
In the Gators’ Last Meet:
The nation’s third-highest team total ever, 198.775, advanced No. 2 seed Florida to its 38th NCAA Championship. Florida used team event totals of 49.65 or better – including a program record 49.75 for balance beam – toward its school-record total.<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__floridagators.com_news_2022_4_2_big-2Dscore-2Dsends-2Dno-2D2-2Dflorida-2Dgymnastics-2Dto-2Dncaa-2Dchampionships.aspx&d=DwIFAg&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=8Gf3MOAsVdt-tLZG8-H2X3lBSE29EZaDgqJTSku1r4tWVbS7V6xgSYBqFDnQVx_A&s=sR6UVr_v65ZWp_WcTOj858xdg2eUg8BvSQtqjqmEEUc&e= >
Two Gators added to their 2022 perfect 10.0 count in the NCAA Auburn Regional final. Senior Trinity Thomas earned four 10.0 at the NCAA Auburn Regional (bars & floor / second round; vault & floor / final) to push her national leading total to 10 perfect marks in 2022. Freshman Leanne Wong earned her first vault 10.0 in the regional final. She was the nation’s first freshman with a perfect mark in 2022, closing January competition with the season’s first uneven bars 10.0.
Thomas and Wong went 1-2 in NCAA Regional final all-around with totals that not only set collegiate bests, but are among the nation’s leaders. The nation’s 2022 leading all-around of 39.90 by Thomas equals her school-record total set in 2021 and ties for the fifth-highest total in NCAA history. Wong was just a tick behind at 39.875, which ties Thomas’ regional second round total for the nation’s No. 2 all-around of 2022. An all-around total of 39.85 or better has been turned in six times across the nation in 2022 – with five of those totals coming from Thomas and Wong.
Through both days of NCAA Regional competition, four Gators set or equaled nine collegiate bests: Sloane Blakely (9.90 bars; 9.95 beam), Megan Skaggs (9.95 bars), Thomas (10.0 vault, bars, floor; 39.90 all-around) and Wong (10.0 vault; 39.875 all-around). Thomas’ uneven bars 10.0 in NCAA Regional second round action completed a ‘Season Slam’ – a 10.0 in each apparatus in a single season. Of the 12 in NCAA history with a ‘Gym Slam’, Thomas is the eighth with a Season Slam and the first Gator.
