NFL and the No Gambling Policy

By: Jeremy T. Ballreich

We all have heard about the no gambling on the NFL Games for NFL Players. But as this 2nd wave of investigations of players and coaches gambling, there seems to be a common thing being said by many of the new players. That they were not aware they couldn’t bet on other sports within or on NFL properties.

In fact, Jameson Williams found out about his suspension from his father. Not the team, not a front office official, not any of the coaches, or even the league that handed down the suspension to begin with.
I find this both odd and disturbing.

So far 8 players, a few more player assistants, and low-level coaches have had the suspensions and termination papers given. It seems the local media wants to hear Jamo (Jameson Williams) give some formal and in-depth explanation. When truly he can’t. He fessed up that he did break some NFL rule he was never even told about. He’s not trying to fight it in any way. Speaks volumes to the maturity of this young man playing a fair that millions of people will watch throughout the season each game.

Maybe the League needs to hold a rookie symposium educating the newcomers to the league about the gambling rules. Even make past offenders speakers, that way the new rookies will understand the severity of breaking those rules.

Just an opinion from an old football fan, and journalist.
