Young people are developing and becoming better at acting and theater through the Next Stop Broadway Summer Camp program at Coral Springs Center for the Performing Arts.
The camp offers very high level training for aspiring actors and actresses. The young people learn to become confident on stage and this translates well into other areas of life. But not only the children learn acting skills, they get to actually perform in a dramatic production on the Center for the Performing Arts.
“We teach them music and singing and every aspect of acting,” said Cynthia O’Brien, director of the program. “We do a full scale musical.
The younger children will perform the musical Sponge Bob and the teenagers and young adults will perform the Adams Family on August 6. There are about 40 young people who are working on the Adams Family and it will be a high level performance. “We have top high school and some college actors in this program. Many are very active in their high school acting and Thespian programs,” said O’Brien.
Some of the people who are participating in Next Stop Broadway go on to acting and entertainment careers. “It takes tenacity and persistence to be successful in acting. Some will perform on Broadway while others will perform on cruise ships and local theaters,” said O’Brien.
The students love the chance to work on their acting skills.
