MEMPHIS, TENN. – The No. 57 Florida Atlantic men’s tennis team improves to 11-8 on the season with a 4-2 victory in the 2025 American Athletic Conference Championship quarterfinals on Friday afternoon.
The win is the second of the season over the Roadrunners. The first was back on February 21st in San Antonio, Texas which started an Owl streak that included victories in 10 of the last 11 matches.
The FAU doubles duo of Jiri Jenicek and Simon Myslivec made easy work of court one with a 6-0 victory. Senior captain John Bernard and Luca Pignaton would soon follow with a 6-3 win on court three. The two victories secured the doubles point for the Owls.
FAU freshman Segundo Goity Zapico ran his team leading singles record to 22-12 overall with a 6-4, 6-2 win on court four. UTSA would pull within one at 2-1 with a win on court two. FAU freshman Marek Pazdera erased the threat with a court six 6-2, 7-6(7-5) win. Up 3-1, UTSA closed the margin to 3-2 by taking court one. Owl sophomore Myslivec then clinched the victory with a 6-4, 7-6(12-10) court five win.
Florida Atlantic will remain in Memphis and will face the winner of the quarterfinal match between Charlotte and host Memphis. The semifinal match is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. EDT.
