CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team (4-2) earned the 4-2 ranked win over the No. 21 UCF Knights (8-1) on Friday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Despite a close start in doubles, the Knights took the opening point before the Hurricanes made the comeback in singles to earn their highest ranked win since 2022.
UCF’s Mehdi Benchakroun and Santiago Giamichelle defeated Nacho Serra Sanchez and Leonardo Dal Boni, 6-2, on court two, followed by a court three win from Emilio Sanchez and Yassine Dlimi over Mehdi Sadaoui and Jules Garot.
No. 82 Antonio Prat and Martin Katz were up 4-3 on a Liam Branger and Paul Colin at the top court when play was halted.
The Knights earned another point on court four when XC beat Dal Boni 7-6 (2), 6-3. Miami then got on the board when Serra Sanchez took down Dlimi, 7-5, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot, followed by another win on court two from Prat against No. 108 Benchakroun, 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-0.
Katz, ranked No. 67, took the lead for Miami after a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win against Colin at the top court. After forcing a third set, Sadaoui clinched the match win after a 1-6, 6-2, 7-5 victory over Branger on court five.
The Hurricanes are back in action on Feb. 21 when they host FGCU at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
