MTEN: Hurricanes Rally for 4-3 Victory Over Yellow Jackets

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 34 University of Miami men’s tennis team (10-6, 3-4) rallied back for the 4-3 victory over No. 38 Georgia Tech (12-5, 5-2), 4-3, on Friday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

Despite losing the doubles point, Miami battled to take four singles courts for the wire-to-wire victory.

At the top court, Martin Katz and Antonio Prat earned the 6-1 ranked win over No. 20 Nate Bonetto and Gianluca Carlini, before the Yellow Jackets grabbed back-to-back courts to win the doubles point. Nacho Serra Sanchez and Leonardo Dal Boni fell, 6-3, to Krish Arora and Christophe Clement on court two, followed by a court three 6-4 by Gabriele Brancatelli and Robert Bauer over Mehdi Sadaoui and Jules Garot.

Miami opened singles strong, earning back-to-back courts from No. 41 Katz over No. 109 Bonetto, 6-3, 6-1, at the top court, followed by a 6-2, 6-1 win from Dal Boni against Carlini on court five. The Yellow Jackets then tied it back up with a court two win from Brancatelli over Prat, 7-5, 7-5.

The last three courts went back-and-forth to wrap things up. Garot forced a third set with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Biagiotti on court six, while Georgia Tech’s Clement secured court three, 7-5, 7-6 (7), over Sanchez. Down to court four, Sadaoui also forced a third set to get the 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-3 victory over Arora.

The Hurricanes will remain home to host No. 16 Clemson on March 23.
