Hurricanes drop final dual meet of regular season, 157-143
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes came up just short in their final dual meet of the season Monday, falling to in-state rival Florida State, 157-143.
The Hurricanes (7-2) impressed over the course of the afternoon with several strong performances both in the lanes and on the boards against a talented Seminoles (6-3) squad.
Freshman Marissa Inouye won the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:54.81) ahead of teammate Adrianna Cera (9:57.54) to open individual action, and veteran Savannah Barr added a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.56).
Freshman Ashlyn Massey finished with the top time in the 200-yard butterfly (1:55.01) before Giulia Carvalho won the 50-yard freestyle in a blazing time of 22.30.
On the boards, Chiara Pellacani won both the 1-meter (316.5) and 3-meter (382.95) springboard events just ahead of teammate Mia Vallée, who was second in both (315.23, 351.98) on a dominant day for Miami divers.
The Hurricanes fought until the end, receiving a top finish from Mary Kate Kelley in the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.63) and the second win from Inouye (4:48.88) in the 500-yard freestyle. Carvalho also added a second win in the 100-yard butterfly (51.87) in the final stages of individual competition.
Miami continues its season with the First Chance Meet on Fri, Feb. 14 at the Whitten Pool before traveling to the ACC Swimming & Diving Championships from Feb. 18-22 in Greensboro, N.C.
