MIAMI MARLINS SELECT SHORTSTOP AIVA ARQUETTE WITH THE SEVENTH OVERALL PICK IN THE 2025 FIRST-YEAR PLAYER DRAFT

The 6-foot-5 shortstop from Oregon State University has been ranked as the consensus top college position player in this year’s draft class

MIAMI – The Miami Marlins tonight selected shortstop Aiva (pronounced eye-vuh) Arquette out of Oregon State University (Corvallis, Ore.) with the seventh overall pick in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft.

Arquette, 21, is ranked as the consensus top college position player in the 2025 class, the No. 5 overall prospect by Baseball America, and the No. 6 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline. The 6-foot-5 right-handed hitter led the Beavers in 2025 with his team-best .354 average (90×254) while setting career highs with 73 runs, 17 doubles, 19 home runs, and 66 RBI in 65 games. This season, he posted a 1.115 OPS, 153 wRC+, 16.5% strikeout rate and 12.6% walk rate.

The junior led the program to their eighth Men’s College World Series, opening the tournament with a nine-game hitting streak. In 11 games during the run, Arquette hit .360 (18×50) with three doubles, two home runs, and six RBI. In his first season at Oregon State, and his first season as a primary shortstop, he made all 65 starts at the position and posted a .974 fielding percentage. 

The Kailua, Hawaii, native earned various national honors after his breakout campaign that saw him hit the fourth-most home runs in program history, including being named to Perfect Game’s All-America Second Team and Baseball America’s All-America Second Team. Additionally, he was named a Bobby Bragan National Collegiate Slugger of the Year Finalist, a Golden Spikes Award Semifinalist, and a Brooks Wallace Award Finalist, which is given to the nation’s top shortstop.

Arquette began his college career at the University of Washington, where he combined for a .311 average (79×254) with 14 doubles, one triple, 17 home runs, and 47 RBI in 63 games across two seasons from 2023-24, earning All-Pac 12 honors after his sophomore campaign. He also spent the 2024 summer with the Chatham Anglers of the Cape Cod Baseball League, slashing .291/.357/.427 (30×103) with 21 RBI and a .793 OPS.
