MIAMI MARLINS ACQUIRE MINOR LEAGUE OUTFIELDERS BRENDAN JONES AND DILLON LEWIS AND INFIELDERS DYLAN JASSO AND JUAN MATHEUS FROM NEW YORK YANKEES IN EXCHANGE FOR LEFT-HANDED PITCHER RYAN WEATHERS

Marlins to receive three of the Yankees’ Top 30 prospects by Baseball America, including eighth-best prospect Dillon Lewis

MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today announced that the club has acquired Minor League outfielders Brendan Jones and Dillon Lewis in addition to Minor League infielders Dylan Jasso and Juan Matheus from the New York Yankees in exchange for left-handed pitcher Ryan Weathers.

Lewis, 22, is rated by Baseball America as the Yankees’ No. 8 prospect, in addition to being named as the system’s “Best Defensive Outfielder” and “Best Outfield Arm” per the publication. The 6-foot-3 right-handed hitter appeared in 122 games last season with Single-A Tampa and High-A Hudson Valley, posting a .237/.321/.445 (110×465) offensive slash line with 72 runs, 21 doubles, five triples, 22 home runs, 79 RBI, and 26 stolen bases. Lewis finished his first full season within the Yankees’ system ranking in the organization’s Top 5 in home runs (3rd, 22), RBI (4th, 79), and total bases (4th, 207), triples (T4th, 5), and extra-base hits (T4th, 48).

Originally selected by the Yankees in the 13th round (391st overall) of the 2024 First-Year Player Draft out of Queens University of Charlotte, Lewis has appeared in 136 games over two professional seasons, batting .238 (123×517) with a .759 OPS.

Jones, 23, is rated by Baseball America as New York’s No. 13 prospect coming off his second season in the organization, where he produced a .245/.359/.395 (112×458) offensive slash line with 89 runs, 20 doubles, eight triples, 11 home runs, and 69 RBI in 124 games between High-A Hudson Valley and Double-A Somerset. The 5-foot-10 outfielder, who led the Yankees’ system last season with 51 stolen bases, also ranked in the organization’s Top 5 in walks (2nd, 82), triples (2nd, 8) and runs (3rd, 89).  

The Nashville, Tenn., native earned the first accolade of his professional career with an Eastern League Player of the Week Award on July 13, 2025. He was originally selected by the Yankees in the 12th round (361st overall) of the 2024 First-Year Player Draft out of Kansas State University, where he led the Big 12 in walks (55) and stolen bases (40) while becoming the first player in program history to be a finalist for the Rawlings Gold Glove Award during his final season. 

Jasso (Hoss-oh), 23, the No. 26 prospect in the Yankees’ system per Baseball America, appeared in 127 games with Double-A Somerset in 2025, producing a .257/.326/.400 (123×478) offensive slash line while appearing in 83 contests at third base, 18 at second base, 15 at first base, and 11 as the club’s designated hitter.  The 6-foot-1 infielder began the year as the system’s No. 23 prospect per MLB Pipeline and finished the season ranking in the Top 5 among Yankees’ Minor Leaguers in four offensive categories: hits (3rd, 123), triples (3rd, 6), RBI (5th, 76), total bases (5th, 191).

The Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico native has played in 268 games over three Minor League seasons (2023-25), producing a .256 batting average (254×994) and .742 OPS along with 140 runs, 55 doubles, 10 triples, 25 home runs, 164 RBI and three stolen bases. He was originally signed by New York-AL as a non-drafted free agent out of the University of New Mexico on July 12, 2023.

Matheus, 21, played in a career-high 123 games in 2025 between Single-A Tampa and High-A Hudson Valley, producing a .275/.365/.376 (122×444) offensive slash line with 61 runs, 32 doubles, 56 RBI, and 40 stolen bases. The 5-foot-10 infielder, who played 88 games at third base, 25 games at shortstop, six games at second base, and four games as the designated hitter, also ranked among Yankees’ farmhands in hits (4th, 122), doubles (T2nd, 32), and stolen bases (3rd, 40) during his fourth season in the Minors. He was also tabbed as the Florida State League Player of the Week on May 18, his first professional accolade.


The Lara, Venezuela, native has slashed .277/.396/.411 (216×781) in 234 Minor League games from 2022-24 since being signed by New York-AL as an International free agent on Jan. 27, 2022.

Weathers, 26, posted a 2-2 record and 3.99 ERA (17 ER/38.1 IP) in eight starts during his second season with the Marlins in 2025, with 12 walks against 37 strikeouts. The left-handed starter missed time due to two stints on the Injured List last season, with a left flexor muscle strain from March 27-May 14 and a left lat strain from June 9-Sept. 11. Acquired by Miami from San Diego on Aug. 1, 2023, the Loretta, Tenn., native owns a combined 12-23 record and 4.93 ERA (154 ER/281.0 IP) in 70 games (55 starts) between the Padres (2020-23) and Marlins (2023-25). 

Miami’s 40-man roster now stands at 39.
