DOLPHINS WIN SECOND IN A ROW, DEFEAT LIONS 3 1 – 2 7
• The win improves Miami’s record to 5-3 this season, which is tied for their best eight-game start in the past decade.
The Dolphins also began the 2014 and 2020 seasons 5-3.
• The 5-3 start for Mike McDaniel is the second best by a new coach in Dolphins history. Only Dave Wannstedt, who started his tenure in 2000 at 6-2, had a better record after eight games.
• The Dolphins erased a 14-point deficit in today’s win. It marks the second time the Dolphins have won a road game after trailing by 14+ points this season, which is the first time Miami has done that since 1996.
o Miami trailed by 21 points in its Week 2 win at Baltimore.
• This is Miami’s first win at Ford Field since Nov. 23, 2006, a Thanksgiving Day game the Dolphins won, 27-10. Today was only the second time Miami has played at Ford Field since then (2014).
• The Dolphins are now 4-3 in their past seven road games.
• Miami is 8-5 against Detroit in the all-time series.
HILL AND WADDLE BREAK NFL RECEIVING RECORD
• WR Tyreek Hill finished today’s game with 12 receptions for 188 yards (15.7 avg.) while WR Jaylen Waddle totaled eight receptions for 106 yards (13.3 avg.) and two touchdowns in today’s win. It brings Hill’s season totals to 69 receptions for 961 yards (13.9 avg.) and two touchdowns and Waddle’s to 42 receptions for 727 yards (17.3 avg.) and five touchdowns.
• Hill and Waddle have combined for 1,688 receiving yards. It’s the most receiving yards by a pair of teammates in the first eight games of a season in NFL history:

• Hill has now topped 160 receiving yards in four games despite playing just eight for the team in his career. It’s the second-most 160-yard games in Dolphins history behind WR Mark Duper, who had six in 69 games.
• At the end of today’s 1 p.m. games, Hill and Waddle own five of the NFL’s top 10 single-game receiving yardage outputs this season. Hill owns the top two spots with 190 yards at Baltimore and 188 yards today. Hill also ranks fifth with 177 yards vs. Minnesota and ninth with 160 yards at Cincinnati. Waddle’s 171 yards at Baltimore are sixth in the league this season.
• Hill and Waddle each topped 100 yards, giving them each four 100-yard receiving games this season. That ranks them tied for seventh for the most 100-yard receiving games in a season in Dolphins history.

TAGOVAILOA HAS FIFTH CAREER 300 – YARD GAME
• QB Tua Tagovailoa completed 29-of-36 passes (80.6 pct.) for 382 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions, good for a rating of 138.7. The 138.7 rating was the highest in a single game in his career, breaking his previous career high of 124.1 at Baltimore earlier this season.
• It was his second 300-yard game of the season (469 at Baltimore) and the fifth of his career.
• Tagovailoa had touchdown passes of five yards to WR Jaylen Waddle in the first quarter, 29 yards to Waddle in the second quarter and 11 yards to TE Mike Gesicki in the third quarter.

• He’s now averaging 9.02 yards per attempt, which leads the NFL this season and is second-best in a season in Dolphins history. QB Earl Morrall holds the Dolphins record with 9.07 yards per attempt in 1972.
• Tagovailoa also had an 18-yard rush today, the second-longest of his career.
DOLPHINS DEFENSE CLAMPS DOWN IN SECOND HALF
• After surrendering 27 points and 326 yards to the Lions offense in the first half, Miami’s defense completely turned it around in the second half by limiting Detroit to zero points and just 67 total yards.
• The Dolphins have now shutout back-to-back opponents in the second half of games after allowing no points to Pittsburgh in the second half last week. It’s the first time the Dolphins have held consecutive opponents scoreless in the second half of games since 2020, when Miami did so against the N.Y. Jets and Cincinnati in Weeks 12 and 13.
• Detroit’s 67 total yards was its lowest output in the second half of a game since Dec. 29, 2019 vs. Green Bay when they managed 54.
o It was the fewest yards allowed by Miami in a second half since Dec. 19, 2021 vs. N.Y. Jets (54).
GESICKI MOVES INTO SECOND PLACE IN DOLPHINS TE RECEIVING CHARTS
• TE Mike Gesicki caught three passes for 38 yards (12.7 avg.) today, including an 11-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter.
• It brings his career total to 2,490 receiving yards and moves him into second-place on the team’s all-time tight end receiving chart, surpassing TE Bruce Hardy, who had 2,455 yards.
