DOLPHINS BEAT JAGUARS ON THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
• The Dolphins’ win over Jacksonville is their first win on Thursday Night Football since Nov. 13, 2014 vs. Buffalo and their first road win on Thursday Night Football since Nov. 19, 2009 at Carolina.
• Miami’s 18-point win is the team’s largest margin of victory since a 26-point win vs. Denver on Dec. 3, 2017.
• The last time the Dolphins won a prime time game by at least 17 points was Dec. 17, 2016 at the N.Y. Jets when they posted a 34-13 victory on a Saturday night.
• Miami has now evened the all-time series with Jacksonville at five games apiece (including one Jacksonville playoff victory).
• This is Miami’s fourth all-time win at Jacksonville. The Dolphins last won at Jacksonville on Oct. 26, 2014.
• The Dolphins have now won two of their past three road games dating back to last season and six of their past 12 games overall.
FITZPATRICK BREAKS DOLPHINS SINGLE – GAME COMPLETION PCT. RECORD
• QB Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 18-of-20 passes (90.0 pct.), breaking the team’s all-time record for completion
percentage in a game with a minimum of 20 attempts. The previous record of 85.0 pct. (17-of-20) was set by QB Chad Pennington on Sept. 21, 2008 at New England.
• QB Ryan Fitzpatrick began the game with 12 consecutive completions. Adding his nine straight completions to finish last week’s game vs. Buffalo, Fitzpatrick completed 21 straight passes, which is the second-longest streak in team history. QB Ryan Tannehill had a 25 consecutive completion streak from Oct. 18-25, 2015.
• Fitzpatrick finished the game with 160 passing yards, two touchdowns and a 133.3 QB rating. He also rushed seven times for 38 yards (5.4 avg.) and a touchdown and caught a pass.
• The 133.3 QB rating was the fourth-best passer rating in Fitzpatrick’s 159-game NFL career (min. 20 attempts) and his best since Sept. 16, 2018 vs. Philadelphia when he played for Tampa Bay.
• His 90.0 completion percentage was the best of his career (min. five attempts).
• Fitzpatrick had a 1-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter. It’s his first rushing touchdown of the season, fifth with the Dolphins and 20th of his career. He rushed for a career-high four touchdowns last year.
• Fitzpatrick is now the first NFL quarterback since at least 1950 to beat the same opponent as the starting quarterback with six different teams. He has now beaten the Jaguars as starting quarterback for Cincinnati, Buffalo,
Tennessee, Houston, N.Y. Jets and Miami.
DOLPHINS OFFENSE EXPLODES TO 21 – 7 LEAD IN FIRST HALF
• Miami scored touchdowns on each of its first three possessions for just the second time since at least 2000. The other instance was Nov. 20, 2011 vs. Buffalo.
• The Dolphins had 17 first downs in the first half, tied for the team’s most first downs in a first half since at least 2000. Miami last had 17 first downs in the first half on Oct. 18, 2015 at Tennessee.
• The Dolphins totaled 218 yards of offense in the first half. It’s the first time the team topped 200 yards in the first half of a game this season. Miami accomplished this three times in 2019.
• QB Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 12-of-14 passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns in the first half, giving him a QB rating of 144.0. It was the fifth-highest QB rating in the first half of a game in his career (min. 10 att.).
• The Dolphins rushed for 91 yards in the first half, their most in the first half of a game since Dec. 9, 2018 vs. New England when they rushed for 142 yards in the first half.
MIAMI JUMP S OUT TO A 14 – 0 FIRST QUARTER LEAD
• The Dolphins ended the first quarter with a 14-0 lead. It was their first 14-0 lead since the Dec. 22, 2019 win vs. Cincinnati.
• Miami had 12 first downs in the first quarter. It’s the first time the Dolphins had more than 10 first downs in the first quarter of a game since at least 1992.
• Miami totaled 144 yards of offense in the first quarter. It’s just the third time since 2016 the Dolphins had at least 140 yards of offense in the first quarter. Miami had 167 yards of offense in the first quarter of the aforementioned Cincinnati game and 152 yards of offense in the first quarter vs. Tampa Bay on Nov. 19, 2017.
DOLPHINS OPEN GAME WITH LONGEST OPENING DRIVE SINCE 2011
• The Dolphins opened the game with a 12-play, 84-yard touchdown drive that took 6:51 off the clock and was capped off by a 3-yard pass from QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to WR Preston Williams.
• The last time the Dolphins started a game with a drive that long was a 12-play, 84-yard touchdown drive that took 7:18 off the clock on Sept. 12, 2011 vs. New England on Monday Night Football.
• It was Williams’ first touchdown of the season. He had three touchdown receptions as a rookie in 2019 before suffering a season-ending injury in the eighth game of the season.
XAVIEN HOWARD PICKS OFF MINSHEW
• CB Xavien Howard intercepted QB Gardner Minshew II on Jacksonville’s final possession of the game. It’s Howard’s 13th interception in his past 25 games dating back to December 2017.
• Howard’s 13 interceptions since December 2017 are tied with Chicago CB Kyle Fuller for the most in the NFL in that span.
DOLPHINS DEFENSE COMES UP WITH BIG PLAYS
• LB Kyle Van Noy forced his second fumble in as many weeks when he strip-sacked QB Gardner Minshew II with 4:16 remaining in the third quarter and recovered the fumble himself. Van Noy also forced a fumble on Buffalo TE Dawson Knox last week.
• The Dolphins’ two turnovers forced marked their first multi-takeaway game this season.
• Miami had four sacks – one each from Van Noy, LB Kamu Grugier-Hill and LB Andrew Van Ginkel along with a split sack between DT Zach Sieler and DE Emmanuel Ogbah. It’s the team’s most sacks in a game since they had four on Dec. 22, 2019 vs. Cincinnati.
• The Dolphins had 10 quarterback hits tonight, their most in a game since having 10 vs. the New York Jets on Nov. 3, 2019.
• Miami held Jacksonville to just 72 rushing yards tonight. It was Jacksonville’s lowest total of the season and Miami’s lowest total allowed since Dec. 22, 2019 vs. Cincinnati.
GESICKI SCORES AGAIN
• TE Mike Gesicki caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from QB Ryan Fitzpatrick with 5:58 left in the second quarter to give Miami a 21-7 lead.
• It was Gesicki’s seventh touchdown reception since Week 12 of the 2019 season. He’s tied for the most touchdown receptions in the NFL in that span.
• Gesicki now has 175 receiving yards this season, which leads all NFL tight ends.
GASKIN POSTS SEVERAL CAREER HIGHS
• RB Myles Gaskin had several career highs today, totaling 22 carries for 66 rushing yards (3.0 avg.). He also had a career high with 95 scrimmage yards after he caught five passes for 29 yards (5.8 avg.).
• Gaskin’s 22 carries were the most by a Dolphins running back since Dec. 11, 2017 when RB Kenyan Drake had 25 vs. New England.
• His 95 scrimmage yards were the most by a Dolphins running back since Drake had 95 on Dec. 30, 2018 at Buffalo.
• Gaskin has now led the Dolphins in rushing in all three games this season.
• In Gaskin’s last five games, dating back to last season, he has totaled 63 carries for 250 yards (4.0 avg.) and one touchdown. He’s also tallied 18 receptions for 123 yards (6.8 avg.) in that span.
