Miami Dade to host Great Park Summit

Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces will host the 2022 Great Park Summit on Tuesday, July 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., in celebration of National Parks and Recreation Month. The theme of this year’s event is The Power of Parks, as communities continue to explore how parks and public spaces are catalysts for greener, healthier, more resilient, and economically vibrant communities.

Hear from parks and recreation industry professionals, urban planners, health and wellness experts, environmental stewards, conservationists, and community leaders on ways to enhance our community’s quality of life through great parks, open spaces, greenways, and trails.

This virtual conference will feature breakout sessions led by national and international speakers. Conference attendees can choose from topics from the three pillars of Placemaking, Health & Fitness, and Conservation and Stewardship, or attend LEAF sessions from Neat Streets Miami and Million Trees Miami. In addition, there will be a Mayor’s Roundtable featuring Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and mayors from across the U.S.

“I am so proud to be participating in this year’s Great Park Summit, hosted by our Parks Department,” said Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “This summit is dedicated to exploring the future of parks. We will learn from and share with cities that are leading the way with data-driven approaches for park improvement, community engagement, and improved health and wellbeing of all. The virtual format will allow for more people to join in the discussions, expanding the scope and perspectives. We look forward to a great turnout!”

“We are delighted to host the 2022 Great Park Summit,” said Miami-Dade Parks Director Maria I. Nardi. “This is truly a collaborative and transformative initiative for the resilient future of parks. Our goal is that everyone takes away a greater understanding of how vital the investment in parks is to the health of people, communities and the entire planet.”
