Miami Dade Mayor testifies before U.S. House of Representatives

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava testified before the United States House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, as part of the committee’s “Now or Never: The Urgent Need for Ambitious Climate Action” hearing. Mayor Levine Cava discussed the county’s climate adaptation and resiliency plans. Environmental protection is a pillar of the mayor’s policy agenda as Miami-Dade County – a major coastline metropolis – is a frontline community in the fight against climate change.

“The climate crisis is at our doorstep,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “In Miami-Dade, we have already seen significant impacts of climate change through extreme heat waves, stronger storms, more frequent flooding, groundwater intrusion, and sea level rise. Our environment is our economy and when it comes to protecting our community, it’s not just about the environment – it’s also about jobs and our future. That is why we are aggressively implementing comprehensive climate adaptation and resiliency plans to safeguard our environment, our residents, and our livelihoods.”

Mayor Daniella Levine Cava spoke earlier this week at several United Nations convenings on climate change, resiliency, and adaptation. On Wednesday, she joined a panel of local and regional leaders from around the world to discuss how municipalities are leading the way on new climate policy, impacting billions of people.
