Miami-Dade County is wants to hire people for seasonal jobs

The Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department has hundreds of seasonal jobs to fill this summer, including pool/lake lifeguards and summer camp personnel (Recreation Leader / PROS Seasonal Programs Assistant). Miami-Dade County Parks offers exciting and enriching job opportunities across every corner of the county, with competitive pay well above Florida’s minimum wage.
Hardworking and fun-loving individuals ages 17 and older are encouraged to apply online from February 16 through April 17, 2023.
Those interested in applying for pool manager or pool/lake lifeguard positions must be at least 18 years old and are required to submit proof of current certification in CPR, first aid, lifeguarding and water-safety instruction provided by the Red Cross, YMCA or other nationally recognized aquatic training program. Training may or may not be available for those who apply early, as COVID-19 restrictions may be applicable at the time.
All positions require the successful completion of a drug and alcohol screening and a criminal background check. Lifeguard applicants must successfully complete the appropriate skills exercise and a two-point, high-risk physical examination in addition to the above.
Pompano Beach to hold chess event

The City of Pompano Beach is holding a chess event.
Mayor Rex Hardin invites everyone to join him along with mayors throughout Broward County for the Mayor’s Chess Challenge. The free event will be held on Saturday, March 4th, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., at the Pompano Beach Cultural Center located at 50 W. Atlantic Boulevard.
The Mayor’s Chess Challenge is spearheaded by Sunrise Mayor Michael J. Ryan in cooperation with Mayors from throughout Broward County.
This event welcomes players of all ages and skill levels. It is not a chess tournament, but a non-competitive open play event designed to build confidence and expand the appreciation for this intellectually stimulating game of strategy.
Pompano Beach city leaders to celebrate dedication ceremony for Fire Station 114

Pompano Beach City officials will cut the ribbon, or in this case uncouple the hose, to celebrate the completion of Fire Station 114. The ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony will take place on Wednesday, February 22nd, at 9:30 a.m. at the new station located at 1499 SW 36 Avenue.
The new fire station is extremely important as is expanding services to the Palm Aire community to insure reduced travel times in the southwest area of the City.
The new fire station includes a 13,990 square foot two story building with CBS construction to withstand category V hurricane force winds. The station has a standing seam metal roof, exterior impact windows and doors and concrete block and stucco finishes. Sustainable design features include Xeriscape landscaping, low-flow plumbing fixtures, a full back up generator system and more.
The building spaces include three-bay drive through apparatus bays, training room, physical fitness room, full kitchen with commercial gas appliances and stainless-steel counters, six individual bunk rooms and three individual officer’s rooms.
Fire Station 114 will be dedicated to John Jurgle who was the Pompano Beach Fire Chief from 2013-2020. Chief Jurgle served 39 years in the Pompano Beach Fire Department in positions including firefighter, paramedic, driver engineer, Lieutenant, EMS Supervisor, Assistant Chief and Chief.
