Six Bulls earn ITA Scholar-Athlete honors
TAMPA, FLA., July 14, 2023 – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced that USF’s Men’s Tennis has been named as one of the 2023 Division I Men’s ITA All-Academic Teams. Six Bulls were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, Elijah Cham, Samuel Frizelle, Bruno Oliveira, Thomas Pavlekovich-Smith, Tom Pisane, and Alvin Tudorica.
To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must meet the following requirements:
Have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale); all student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form; and all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must meet the following requirements:
Have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year; be listed on the institutional eligibility form.
The Bulls finished 12-13 in the 2023 season.
Cham, a freshman from Sydney, Australia, finished 9-10 in singles matches in his first year at USF and competed in two doubles matches, going 1-1. He won three of his last four singles matches.
Frizelle, from Lutz, Florida, competed in 11 doubles matches finishing 2-9 and lost his only singles match in his freshman season.
Oliveira, a junior transfer (South Carolina) from Belo Horizonte, Brazil was second on the Bulls with 11 singles wins, going 11-9 on the season. In doubles action, Oliveira finished 9-14.
A sophomore transfer (Monash University) from Melbourne, Australia, Pavlekovich-Smith finished 8-8 in singles action and went 6-17 in doubles.
Pisane, a junior transfer (LSU) from Antwerp, Belgium, finished 3-8 in singles and 2-6 in doubles.
Tudorica, a junior from Toronto, Ontario Canada, was named to the American Athletic Conference All-Conference Team in doubles with Erik Grevelius. The duo finished 9-2 on the season, winning their last six matches. Overall, Tudorica finished 12-9 in doubles and led the Bulls with 13 singles wins, going 13-11. He was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete as a freshman in 2020-21.
