Men’s Soccer Rowdies Cup bs. Tampa Proceeds Will Benefit Children’s Cancer Center

Coaching staffs from both South Florida and the University of Tampa agree to transform the annual game, dubbed the Rowdies Cup, an event to give back to the Tampa community

TAMPA, AUG. 8, 2019— The 41st annual Mayor’s Cup or Rowdies Cup will be the start of a new era for the contest between the University of Tampa and South Florida men’s soccer programs. The game will now serve as a fundraiser for a local charity, with this year’s game on Aug. 24 benefitting Children’s Cancer Center of Tampa.

“Over the years this game, and this fantastic city, have provided so many great memories for all of us,” head coach Bob Butehorn said. “So to show our appreciation, the coaching staffs from both schools looked for ways in which this game could give back to the Tampa community. We decided to make the Mayor’s/Rowdies Cup game an annual charity event. I’m excited to announce this year’s charitable partner is the Children’s Cancer Center of Tampa. I look forward to seeing our fans August 24 and to helping this amazing organization.”

The  41st annual Rowdies Cup, hosted at Corbett Stadium on USF Campus this year, will feature free admission but donations to the Children’s Cancer Center of Tampa are encouraged. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Children’s Cancer Center is a non-profit center whose mission is to provide assistance to families with children who have cancer or chronic blood disorders.
