BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic men’s basketball team has earned multiple weekly honors from the American Athletic Conference following a week of back-to-back home wins at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena by 20+ points. Center Matas Vokietaitis has won Freshman of the Week, while graduate guard KyKy Tandy has been named an AAC Honorable Mention.
This marks the fourth freshman of the week honor for Vokietaitis, most of any player in the conference. On the week, he averaged 15 points on 75% shooting from the field, first with a perfect 4-4 outing for 12 points in the Owls’ 94-74 win against UTSA on Wednesday, Jan. 29. He followed this up with a career-high 18 to lead Florida Atlantic in a 94-72 victory over in-state rival South Florida.
Tandy, who was named on the preseason All-Conference Second Team, has been awarded his first in-season weekly honor. The Hopkinsville, Kentucky native had a three-point explosion in the team’s takedown of the Roadrunners, drilling a career-high eight out of his 10 attempts for 26 points. He added two more against USF to mark his fourth consecutive game converting multiple triples.
