MBB | Owls Travel to Tulsa Before Hosting Charlotte at the Elly

TULSA, Okla. – Florida Atlantic’s men’s basketball team will look to build on their winning streak with a trip to Tulsa to take on the Golden Hurricane on Saturday, Feb. 8, followed by a return to Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena to host Charlotte on Monday, Feb. 10.

The Owls (12-10, 5-4 in American Athletic Conference play) are flying high ahead of their matchup against Golden Hurricane team (9-14, 3-7 AAC) following back-to-back wins by over 20 points. The Saturday matchup will air on ESPNU, tipping off at 12 p.m. EST.

FAU will then have a quick turnaround, flying home to Boca Raton play their first repeat opponent in the 49ers (8-15, 1-9 AAC). The evening will mark the program’s second “Sandstorm,” with every seat in the Elly decked out in exclusive sand-colored t-shirts, sponsored by Florida Atlantic’s renowned MBA Sport Management program, with the team donning special sand-colored jerseys. Airing nationally on ESPN2, the game is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m.

Tandy leads the team with 55 makes from beyond the arc, fifth in the conference
  • Center Matas Vokietaitis has won four AAC Freshman of the Week awards, the most of any player in the league
  • With a career-high 11 assists against UTSA, junior forward Baba Miller became the first Owl of the season to have a double-digit game in points, rebounds, and assists
  • Redshirt sophomore guard Niccolo Moretti is eighth in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio with 81-to-24 (3.38)
  • The Owls are ranked 142h nationally in bench ppg (32.1)
  • A pair of Owls recently reached career milestones. Miller scored his 500th point on Jan. 19 against UAB, while in the following game against Tulane, junior guard Leland Walker became the third active player on the roster to record 1,000 career points
  • FAU is the second-highest-scoring team in the AAC (81.1 ppg) and leads the league in assists (16.7 apg). Miller is second in the conference in blocks per game (1.8), and Walker is tied for fourth in assists per game (4.3)

ABOUT THE GOLEN HURRICANE

  • Tulsa is led by Head Coach Eric Konkol in his third year with the program
  • Graduate guard Keaston Willis is at the top of the AAC with 68 three-pointers on the season. He has converted at least two in 19 of 23 games
  • Versatile senior guard Dwon Odom leads the conference in assists at 5.1 per game
  • Freshman forward Ian Smikle has hauled in a team-high 5.8 rebounds per game
  • The series between the Owls and the Golden Hurricane is tied at 1-1, with the former winning the most recent matchup on Feb. 3, 2024, in a 104-74 victory

ABOUT THE 49ERS

  • Aaron Fearne in his second year as head coach of the 49ers
  • Graduate forward Giancarlo Rosado, a key piece to Florida Atlantic’s Final Four run in 2023, returns to Paradise for the first time since joining Charlotte. He is in the midst of a career-best season with 12.1 points per game and 6.1 boards per game
  • Junior guard Nick Graves is seventh in the conference in scoring at 17.0 points per game
  • The 49ers average an AAC-low 9.5 turnovers per game, 12th best mark in the nation
  • On Jan. 8, the Owls took down Charlotte on the road in a 75-64 victory

TICKETS

Florida Atlantic has announced that a limited number of tickets are on sale for Monday’s matchup. Limited tickets available are based on those returned by the visiting team and can be purchased by visiting Ticketmaster or by calling by calling 1-866-FAU-OWLS. Tickets are $100 in the lower bowl and $50 in the upper arena.

UP NEXT

The Owls will enjoy another six days off before heading to Philadelphia to face Temple (14-8, 6-3 AAC) on Saturday, Feb. 15. The matchup will air on ESPN+ and will tip off at 12 p.m.
