MBB | Owls Set to Host North Texas Before Traveling to South Florida

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic’s men basketball team will take on a pair of American Athletic conference opponents for the second time this team, facing North Texas at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena on Thursday, Feb. 27 before traveling to take on South Florida on Sunday, Mar. 2.The Owls (15-12, 8-6 AAC) are currently in fifth place in the AAC standings and are a game behind the fourth seed, which would earn them a first-round bye in the upcoming conference tournament in Fort Worth, Texas from Mar. 12-16.Against the Mean Green, the matchup will tip off at 7 p.m. while the Bulls face-off is set for 12 p.m. Both games will air on ESPN2.

Redshirt junior forward Tre Carroll is coming off the fourth 20+ point performance of his career against Memphis, also hitting a career-high three triples
Center Matas Vokietaitis has won five AAC Freshman of the Week awards, the most of any player in the conference
The Owls are ranked 11th nationally in bench ppg (32.0)
Redshirt sophomore guard Niccolo Moretti is 11th in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio with 99-to-32 (3.09)
FAU is the second highest scoring team in the AAC (80.3 ppg) as well as assists (16.4 apg) and third in field goal percentage (46.4%). Junior forward Baba Miller is third in blocks per game (1.7) and junior guard Leland Walker is fifth in assists per game (4.1)

Head Coach Ross Hodge is in his second season leading North Texas after six as their associate head coach
The Mean Green boast one of the best defenses in the nation, ranking second in least points allowed per game at 58.8
Former Owl Brenen Lorient, who played for FAU during their consecutive NCAA Tournament runs, will make his return to the Elly. The junior forward is having a career year off the North Texas bench as one of the team’s two double-digit scorers, averaging 12.0 ppg. He is also leading in blocks at 1.2 per game
Senior guard Atin Wright is the team’s top scorer at 13.8 points per game
The Mean Green’s average margin of victory is a league-best +9.3
ABOUT THE BULLS
Ben Fletcher is currently the team’s interim head coach
Senior forward Jamille Reynolds leads the team in points (13.0), is third in the AAC in rebounds (7.9), and is fourth in the conference in blocks (1.6)
Right behind Reynolds in scoring is sophomore guard Jayden Reid (12.1 ppg). He also averages 1.7 steals per game, fourth in the conference
The Bulls boast a strong bench, second in the conference behind the Owls in points per game (27.96)
South Florida is known for getting to the hoop quickly, ranking 11th nationwide in fastbreak points per game (15.43)

Florida Atlantic has announced that a limited number of tickets are on sale for Thursday’s matchup. Limited tickets available are based on those returned by the visiting team and can be purchased by visiting Ticketmaster or by calling by calling 1-866-FAU-OWLS. Tickets are $100 in the lower bowl and $50 in the upper arena.

In their final week of regular season play, FAU will travel to Birmingham to play UAB on Thursday, Mar. 6 and then will host East Carolina for senior day on Sunday, Mar. 9.
