MATCH RECAP: Inter Miami CF II Narrowly Falls to New England Revolution II on the Road

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (May 1, 2022) – Inter Miami CF II suffered a 1-0 defeat to New England Revolution II on Sunday in a MLS NEXT Pro matchup at Gillette Stadium.

Inter Miami CF II fielded a starting XI featuring players on loan from the First Team and players signed to the MLS NEXT Pro roster. Andre Zuluaga started his second consecutive game in goal; Harvey Neville, Abel Caputo, Ryan Sailor and Noah Allen manned the defense; Braxton Najib, Lawson Sunderland and Edison Azcona lined up in midfield; Romeo Beckham and Joevin Jones flanked Shanyder Borgelin in attack.

Jones was included in the starting XI for an Inter Miami team for the first time since suffering a knee injury in June 2021. He previously appeared in a match off the bench for Inter Miami CF II earlier this season.

Revolution II was the beneficiary of an own goal by Allen in the 36th minute, giving the hosts the 1-0 lead.

In the 66th minute, Zuluaga came up big to keep Inter Miami II in the match, turning away Marcos Dias’ penalty kick. Zuluaga saved seven shots on goal in the match and has now saved 11 of the last 12 shots he’s faced, including a penalty in each of the last two matches.

Inter Miami CF continued to fight deep into the match, earning a corner kick in the 89th minute that was delivered by Beckham and headed towards goal by Sailor, but couldn’t find the back of the net.

Inter Miami CF II will return to the pitch for its next match on Saturday, May 7 at DRV PNK Stadium against Philadelphia Union II at 7 p.m ET. This will be the second match of the season between the two clubs, with the first resulting in a 3-3 draw, with Union II claiming the additional point on penalties.
