M-SOC | Trio of Owls Named as Weekly Honorable Mentions

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic men’s soccer had three players named to the American Conference Weekly Honorable Mention list on Monday. Goalkeeper Alfred Mikkelsen, defender Fabrizio Cubeddu, and forward Mamadou Diarra each earned the recognition for the first time this season.
Mikkelsen made four saves in Friday’s 2-0 shutout of FIU. The junior has yet to allow a goal at the FAU Soccer Stadium this season. He leads the American Conference with four solo clean sheets.
Cubeddu also played a key defensive role in Friday’s shutout, working all 90 minutes at right back. The Davie, Fla. native is second on the team in total minutes played through eight games.
On the offensive side, Diarra put the finishing touches on the victory, scoring the Owls’ second goal with 25 seconds remaining in the match. The American Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year leads the Owls with five goals and 13 points.Florida Atlantic men’s soccer (5-2, 2-0) is back in action against Missouri State (3-3-2, 1-2) on Friday, October 3. Kickoff in Springfield, Missouri, is scheduled for 8 p.m. EDT.
