BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University men’s golfer Giovanni Manzoni has had quite the year in 2019, winning the individual title at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional, helping his team claim the NCAA Division II National Championship and now taking top honors at the Swiss International Amateur Championship. His latest victory has qualified him for the Omega European Masters, which will take place Aug. 29-Sep. 1 at the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Course in Crans Montana, Switzerland.
Manzoni shot an eight-under par 208 (69-72-67), which included a hole-in-one on the par 3 seventh hole. He would defeat Mauro Anderi with a birdie on the first playoff hole to clinch the win. His victory earned him a spot in one of the premiere European Tour events.
The sophomore out of Cremella, Italy, tees off at 2:30 pm local time on Friday, Aug. 29, from the first hole and is paired up with Daniel Gavins and Max Schmitt. The Omega European Masters attracts some of the top European talent as Tour Champion Rory McIlroy, two-time defending champion Matthew Fitzpatrick, Lee Westwood, Luke Donald and Sergio Garcia are among the golfers in the field.
In addition to Manzoni, former Lynn men’s golfer, and 2011 Phil Mickelson National Freshman of the Year winner, Ricardo Gouveia will be participating with a 9:10 am tee time.
