Leanne Wong steps into World Championships vault final, finishing seventh.
For the second time of this 2023 FIG World Championships, Florida junior Leanne Wong stepped into a late opportunity to compete on the world stage.
Today on short notice, Wong joined the nine gymnasts competing in the World Championships vault final. Wong posted a 14.100 and 12.833 Saturday afternoon for a final score of 13.466 and a seventh-place finish.
In Wednesday’s World Championships team final at the Antwerp Sportpaleis in Antwerp, Belgium, Wong was scheduled to lead off the U.S.’s balance beam lineup. But Jocelyn Roberson was injured during warm-up and Wong stepped in to fill out the U.S. vault and floor exercise lineups. The U.S. won its seventh consecutive World Championship team gold.
Wong has represented the U.S. in the last three Worlds, medaling each time.
