Late Goal From LA Tech Downs FAU

BOCA RATON, Fla. – A late goal in the 84th minute from Louisiana Tech was the difference in the Florida Atlantic University women’s soccer team’s 2-1 defeat on Sunday. The Owls dip to 7-7-3 including 3-4-1 in Conference USA action, while the Lady Techsters improve to 6-7-3 and 4-2-2 in C-USA play.

Louisiana Tech got a goal off a corner kick in the 21st minute. The Owls battled for the equalizer and eventually found it in the second half. Luisa Daikeler sent a free kick up the left side that was ran down by Mia Sennes. Sennes had a nice run up the left side and sent a cross to the back post that found Bri Austin. Austin punched it in to tie the match at 1-1 in the 72′.

The Lady Techsters converted the go-ahead goal with only six minutes left, when Emma Jones tallied her second score of the day.

QUOTES FROM THE OWLS

“Full credit to Louisiana Tech,” FAU head coach Patrick Baker said. “They had a full week to prepare, and we had to play a very good WKU team on Thursday. Full credit to Louisiana Tech though, they scored two goals. Again, we allowed an early corner kick goal, which has been a pattern, and now we’re chasing the game. We found a way to equalize today, then we stayed in that same shape because we were doing pretty well with it and were on the front foot. We had a chance to clear the ball and we didn’t, and they had a nice shot and goal. We have two games left and are fighting to make the conference tournament. Now, we have to dive back in and see what we can do next Sunday at Middle Tennessee.”

NOTABLE

  • Austin’s goal was the sixth of the season, which is one off of her single-season career high

  • Sennes’ assist was her third of the season, which is good for third on the team
  • Daikeler records her first assist of the year from the defensive spot off that free kick
  • The Owls held a 12-5 edge in shots and a 10-2 lead in corner kicks
