(Intro) “Hey, it’s great to see everybody. I hope everyone is having a great day. Obviously, it was not the outcome we all anticipated last Sunday, but this is a chance for us to go on the road again in the division and have a chance to win a football game, so we’re excited for that opportunity.”
(On if he thought about not abandoning the run game late in the second quarter) “Sure, that’s a totally fair question, one hundred percent fair. I think anytime you lose a football game you go back and self-evaluate yourself and you wish you could have done some things differently than you did. That was the case with me this week, for sure. As a player or as a coach, it’s easy to not self-evaluate yourself after wins. And you’re probably a little bit over critical of yourself after losses, that’s just the way we’re wired. But there are some things that I wish I would have done different there, especially early in the second half. You go back and learn from, and you discuss it, and you move forward, and that’s all you can do.”
(On whether he got overconfident in Nick Foles after the first touchdown) “That’s another fair question. I don’t think so. Was I excited after that touchdown drive? Absolutely. We were happy to have Nick back and all those things. But you go with your plan going in and there were some situations there where we thought we had some throws there and they didn’t work out the way we thought. That’s just the way it goes sometimes. Each game is different. I’ve said that before. Each game is its own chapter in the book, and you learn from it and you move on. But that was a nice touchdown drive, unfortunately we just couldn’t get anything going after that.”
(On the ratio and balance of passes and runs with the offense) “We knew that going in for sure. Did it play a part in it? I don’t think so. Unfortunately, for us, it was our own fault. It was no one, but our own fault. Before we got into the two-minute situation before the end of the half, we only had something like 21 plays. When you look back at the game, we have to do a better job of staying on the field. That’s on me, that’s on the execution, that’s on everybody. We win and lose as a team. So when you go back and look at it, we need to do a better job of staying on the field and converting third downs because when you do that, you have more plays and you can run the ball more and you can throw the ball more and you can have more offense. I think it boils down to being better at situational football. Again, that’s on all of us. So, hopefully, we will do better this Sunday.”
(On how he assesses Nick Foles’ first game back) “You know, I think there was some good and some plays you wish he would’ve had back. There was a lot of time off between when he went down and that’s a darn good defense. Don’t take anything away from the Colts, they do a good job. You really saw Nick play well to start the game and I think there was a little bit of a lull in the middle there. Then he really started seeing it towards the end of the third quarter into the fourth quarter. We’re hoping that that series of plays at the end of the game kind of carry over into this week.”
(On what the Tennessee Titans defense does best) “Oh man. They are big, strong guys. They are physical, they have a really good scheme, they’re really good in the secondary. There’s really not a weakness when you talk about the D-line, linebackers and secondary. There’s not a weak group with those guys and on top of that, they have good scheme. The thing you see with the Titans is they are just strong guys. They really try to establish the line of scrimmage and establish it early in the game. Whether it be if they’re not blitzing with their four guys up front and their two interior guys, who in my mind are elite players. That’s nothing against the defensive ends, I’m just talking about the interior guys. Or they try to run a back through a gap to take away a double team, things like that. They try to control the line of scrimmage and try to control the line of scrimmage early to set the tone for the game. Our deal all week with our players is we have to own the line of scrimmage. We have to do a good job of that.”
(On what he sees out of the Titans safety duo) “They have range, great ball skills and they are physical. You look at both of those guys and both of them can play in the box. We have to account for those guys. Here is the other thing, too – when they want to play that Cover 2, their corners are heavily involved in the run game as well. The safeties are obviously really good in the run as well, but so are the corners. A lot of times in this league you don’t see a lot of corners try to play physical, but these two do.”
(On the ball skills and physicality of the Titans secondary) “It is the whole package. I have never played DB in my life, so I do not know what it is like. I just know what I observe on tape. Those guys do a great job of transitioning out of their break. They read the quarterback’s drop, then they turn and then they do a great job of feeling the receiver and being able to break on the route. These guys must have been darn good receivers in high school because they have ball skills like receivers. They are great athletes across the board.”
