Winger joins the team after being selected as the 10th overall pick
MIAMI (February 12, 2021) – Inter Miami CF announced today that it has signed 2021 MLS SuperDraft first round pick Josh Penn to a First Team contract. The winger joins after mutually terminating his contract with USL Championship club Indy Eleven.
Penn, 20, a standout at Indiana University, starring in attack for the Hoosiers . The winger made 22 appearances in his only season with the team, starting in each one, and finished with six goals and two assists. Penn also made history with USL Championship club Indy Eleven, becoming the first player to sign professionally for the club after having competed for its academy, also becoming the youngest player to ever sign for the club at that time (18 years, three months and 27 days). The left-footed attacker has also played for the U.S. U-19 and U-20 men’s national teams.
Inter Miami selected Penn in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas with the 10th overall pick, as well as defenders Aimé Mabika with the 26th overall pick and Joe Hafferty with the 37th overall pick, who was subsequently traded to Seattle Sounders FC . After being selected, players may join their MLS clubs for the 2021 preseason but still need to be signed to an MLS contract in order to be eligible for the 2021 MLS campaign.

MIAMI (12 de febrero de 2021) – Inter Miami CF anunció hoy que ha fichado a Josh Penn, quien fue seleccionado en la primera ronda en el SuperDraft de la MLS 2021, con un contrato con el Primer Equipo. El extremo llega procedente del club Indy Eleven de la USL Championship luego de llegar un mutuo acuerdo para rescindir su contrato.
Penn, de 20 años, brilló en Indiana University, siendo protagonista en el ataque para los Hoosiers . El extremo disputó 22 partidos en su única temporada con el equipo, siendo titular en cada uno, y terminó con seis goles y dos asistencias. Además, Penn hizo historia con el club Indy Eleven de la USL Championship, convirtiéndose en el primer jugador en firmar un contrato profesional con el club luego de haber formado parte de su academia; también convirtiéndose en ese entonces en el jugador más joven en fichar con el club (18 años, tres meses y 27 días). El atacante zurdo también ha formado parte de los combinados Sub-19 y Sub-20 de la Selección Nacional Masculina de los EE. UU.
Inter Miami seleccionó a Penn en el SuperDraft de la MLS 2021 presentado por adidas con la 10a selección general, al igual que a lo defensores Aimé Mabika con la 26a selección general y Joe Hafferty con 37a selección general, quien posteriormente fue traspasado a Seattle Sounders FC por medio de un canje .
