MIAMI (January 7, 2021) – Inter Miami CF announced today that the Club and Manager Diego Alonso have mutually agreed to part ways.
“On behalf of the organization, I want to thank Diego for his hard work and dedication during our inaugural season and wish him the best in his future endeavors,” said Inter Miami CF Managing Owner Jorge Mas. “This was a difficult year and a very tough decision for everyone, but we believe it is the right step for the Club. We have great expectations for Inter Miami in the short and long term.”
“Going through the journey of this inaugural season with Inter Miami has been an incredible experience, and I am thankful to the ownership group for the opportunity. I want to thank the staff for their work and friendship, the players for their efforts on the field, and especially the fans for their constant support throughout the year. I wish everyone the best this upcoming season,” said Alonso.
Inter Miami finished with a regular season record of seven wins, three draws and 13 losses, finishing 10th in the Eastern Conference. The Club was eliminated from the MLS Cup playoffs on Nov. 20, 2020.
Alonso helped oversee a number of milestone moments in the Club’s first year, from the team’s debut to its playoff berth, becoming just the seventh MLS franchise to qualify for the playoffs in its inaugural season.

MIAMI (7 de enero de 2021) – Inter Miami CF anunció hoy que el Club y el director técnico Diego Alonso acordaron mutuamente separarse.
“De parte de la organización, quiero agradecerle a Diego por su trabajo arduo y dedicación durante nuestra temporada inaugural y desearle lo mejor en su futuro”, dijo el Propietario Gerente Jorge Mas. “Este fue un año difícil y fue una decisión muy difícil para todos, pero creemos que es el paso correcto para el Club. Tenemos grandes expectativas para Inter Miami en el corto y largo plazo”.
“Formar parte de la aventura de esta temporada inaugural con Inter Miami ha sido una experiencia increíble y estoy agradecido con el grupo de propietarios por la oportunidad. Quiero darle las gracias al staff por su trabajo y amistad, a los jugadores por sus esfuerzos y especialmente a los fanáticos por su apoyo constante durante el año. Les deseo a todos lo mejor en esta próxima temporada”, dijo Alonso.
Inter Miami finalizó su temporada regular con un récord de siete victorias, tres empates y 13 derrotas, terminando 10mo en la conferencia este. El Club fue eliminado de los playoffs de la MLS Cup el 20 de noviembre de 2020.
Alonso ayudó a liderar un número de momentos importantes en el primer año del Club, desde su debut a su clasificación a la postemporada, ayudando a la franquicia a convertirse en tan solo la séptima en lograrlo en su temporada inaugural.
Inter Miami CF le desea lo mejor a Alonso en su futuro.
