Packers Fans sound a lot like the Same Ol’ Lions Fans today. Ready to blow up their team when the wheels are starting to fall off the Big Green Machine in Wisconsin. The Packers showed up in Detroit, win the toss and deferred. The Lions offense stalled ain the Red Zone, and opted to go for it (shocker!) Instead of taking the 3 points with a FG. Turnover on downs, I was starting to think Dan Campbell and his staff were giving up on a guy that didn’t miss a FG last week.
The Packers drive down themselves and throw an INT in the redzone to Rookie Safety Kerby Joseph in the End Zone, holy crap, another Lions turnover in a 4th consecutive game. End of the 1st quarter. 0-0.
The Goods, we finally saw a consistent defensive effort, that limited the Packers offense to 9 points total. Forcing 3 Turnovers by way of the INT (2 by Kerby Joseph and 1 by Aidan Hutchinson). The Offense saw a consistent effort to utilize the run game. Yet the entire team was mediocre overall with only having 28 minutes of Time of Possession, and less than 300 yards of total offense. 137 in the Passing Game, 2 TDs passing and 1 INT.
The Lions won in spite of a less than stellar Jared Goff. Who only had Swift in the game for 7 snaps. Leading rusher was Jamal Williams. And leading receiver being Amon-Ra St. Brown (The Sun God). We saw Shane Zylstra 3 year TE vet from the practice squad, and rookie TE James Mitchell catch their first touchdowns of their career.
Kerby Joseph had 10 total tackles (5 solo & 5 assisted) 2 INTs and a pass defended before having to leave the game under concussion protocol.
Jeffrey Okudah was having a great game himself before being looked at on the same play. Yet, thankfully, Okudah could return.
Overall, while it wasn’t pretty, we’re talking about a win over a division rival. And almost every football pundit said it was to be a get right game for the Packers.
It wasn’t, and this writer couldn’t be happier.
Final Score:
Green Bay 9
Detroit 15
