The Georgia Bulldogs narrowly defeated the No. 22 St. John’s Red Storm, 66-63, at the Imperial Arena in the Bahamas on Sunday. Freshman Asa Newell led Georgia with 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting but fouled out late in the game. Tyrin Lawrence contributed 11 points, nine rebounds, and five assists, while Dillon James recorded five crucial blocks for Georgia.
St. John’s forward Zuby Ejiofor was a standout for the Red Storm, scoring 22 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Aaron Scott added 14 points, but the Red Storm struggled to maintain momentum against Georgia’s defensive runs. St. John’s shot 31% from the field and 2 of 19 from behind the arc.
The Bulldogs overcame a late-game push by St. John’s and sealed the win with clutch defensive stops in the final moments. After the game, Georgia head coach Mike White praised his team’s resilience: “We fought hard against a ranked team and showed growth in critical moments.”
