GEN | Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025 Announced

BOCA RATON, Fla. — Florida Atlantic University will enshrine eight new members into the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, Oct. 10. Announced Thursday by Vice President and Director of Athletics Brian White, those slated for induction are Erica Brok (beach volleyball), Harrison Bryant (football), Greg Gantt (men’s basketball), Karen Gray (women’s golf), Capri Grotowski (coach), Trey Hendrickson (football), Mike McKenna (baseball) and D’Joun Smith (football).
“We are proud to announce the Class of 2025 for the Florida Atlantic Athletics Hall of Fame,” said White. “Honoring and celebrating our history is paramount, and these eight incredibly deserving individuals have been key contributors in building the winning legacy of FAU Athletics. I want to congratulate them on joining the 33 Owls currently in this elite club. We look forward to enshrining them during Hall of Fame weekend next month.”
The Class of 2025 will be inducted on Hall of Fame weekend, which includes an invitation-only dinner on Friday, Oct. 10 and the Owls’ football game on Saturday, Oct. 11 versus UAB.
ERICA BROK (2018-2022)
A two-time first-team All-American selection, Brok graduated as one of the most decorated beach volleyball players in program history and becomes the school’s first beach student-athlete to be enshrined. The Ormond Beach, Fla., native concluded her career as the school’s record holder with 96 career wins, helping set the foundation for the program’s championship success. Brok played a key role in the Owls’ first conference championship in 2021 and the first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2022. As a senior, Brok was a CCSA All-Conference selection, then as a graduate student, was named CUSA All-Conference, CUSA first-team Pairs and Pair of the Year. She earned AVCA first-team All-America honors in each season. A standout in the classroom, Brok was a four-time conference commissioner’s Academic Medal recipient and earned a pair of degrees from FAU – an undergraduate in mathematics in 2021 and an MBA with a concentration in finance in 2023. Brok currently resides in St. Petersburg, Fla., and has played professionally since 2021 on the AVP Tour as well as in the International FIVB.
HARRISON BRYANT (2016-2019)
The 2019 John Mackey Award winner as the nation’s best tight end, Bryant amassed 1,208 yards and 12 touchdowns over his impressive four-year career. The 2019 season, which culminated in an Owls’ CUSA Championship and a Boca Raton Bowl victory, saw Bryant earn first-team All-American distinction from the AFCA, Associated Press, FWAA, Sporting News and Walter Camp – one of just 16 players nationally named a unanimous All-American that year. The native of Macon, Ga., remains the only Mackey Award winner to come from outside the power conferences. Drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, Bryant was an NFL All-Rookie pick by the Pro Football Writers Association. Bryant began his college career as a CUSA All-Freshman pick in 2016. In 2017, while helping the Owls win a CUSA Championship and the Boca Raton Bowl, he was named second-team All-CUSA. His junior season in 2018 saw Bryant selected to the All-CUSA Academic Team, along with a being a first All-CUSA pick and a second-team All-American selection by PFF. Bryant earned his undergraduate degree from FAU in 2021 and is a six-year NFL veteran now playing for the Houston Texans.
GREG GANTT (2009-2013)
The all-time leading scorer in the history of the men’s basketball program, Gantt scored 1,972 points and graduated after his stellar four-year career holding 11 different program records. Gantt was a Sun Belt All-Conference selection three times, earning third-team accolades as a freshman in 2010, second-team honors in 2011 and first-team honors as a senior in 2013 when he scored a single-season school record 677 points and hit 84 three-pointers. He was an NABC All-District pick in each of those seasons, including first-team honors in 2013. Under Head Coach Mike Jarvis, the 2011 Owls captured the program’s first regular season conference title by going 21-11 and 13-3 in the Sun Belt, which resulted in an NIT berth. His 468 points scored as a freshman and 677 points as a senior are class records by an Owl. Gantt also holds the FAU career record in field goals (717) and is second all-time in three-pointers (287). The Gainesville, Fla., native, who graduated from FAU with a sociology degree in 2013, was drafted by the Austin Toros in the NBA D-League and is now playing professionally for Basquet San Antoni in Ibiza, Spain.
KAREN GRAY (1983-1986)
One of the most accomplished Owls during the early years of the varsity athletics program at Florida Atlantic, Gray was a three-time All-American from 1984 to 1986. She was the seventh Owl in any sport to earn All-American distinction and holds the honor as the school’s first women’s golfer to do so. After graduating from FAU in 1986 with a degree in communications, Gray competed in the 1986 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at Pasatiempo and twice competed in the U.S. Women’s Open – 1991 at Colonial and 1993 at Crooked Stick. She entered the coaching ranks as the Head Women’s Golf Coach at Methodist University in Fayetteville, N.C., where she led the Monarchs to a Division II/III national championship title in 1996 and a national runner-up finish the following year. Now residing in Mattapoisett, Mass., Gray, a member of the PGA of America and LPGA, has spent nearly three decades with golf manufacturer Titleist as the company’s supervisor of player research.
CAPRI GROTOWSKI (2015-22)
Grotowski left an indelible legacy on Florida Atlantic University and is being posthumously enshrined as the sixth head coach in the Hall of Fame after succumbing to a personal battle against cancer in 2022. She was named the program’s inaugural head coach in 2014 and for eight years, built the Sandy Owls into a national powerhouse and a perennial Top 20 team. FAU won the 2021 CCSA Conference Championship and followed that with a historic 2022 campaign that saw Grotowski’s team climb to as high as No. 8 in the national polls, win 23 matches and achieve the program’s first NCAA Championship appearance. As the No. 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament, the Owls knocked off ninth-seed Stanford with a 3-0 shutout in the opening round, marking the team’s first NCAA victory. FAU advanced to the Elite 8 and finished the season with the program’s first single digit national ranking, coming in at No. 8 in the AVCA and CBVB national polls. The 2022 CUSA Coach of the Year, Grotowski won 128 matches as head coach, while mentoring six AVCA All-Americans, four AVCA Top Flight selections, two AVCA National Pair of the Week selections, the 2022 CUSA Pair of the Year, three conference Freshman of the Year honorees, eight All-Conference honorees, two CUSA All-Freshman Team selections, three CCSA All-Academic honorees, and 10 conference All-Tournament picks. Her husband, Steve, assumed head coaching duties following Capri’s untimely passing and has carried on her legacy with two CUSA Championships (2023, 2025) and two NCAA Tournament appearances (2023, 2025) in three seasons.
TREY HENDRICKSON (2013-2016)
With more quarterback sacks than any Owl in history, Hendrickson has continued his attack on quarterbacks into the NFL as a four-time Pro Bowl selection and a first-team All-Pro in 2024. Hendrickson registered 29.5 career sacks in his four years at FAU and owns the Owls’ single-season sacks record with 13.5 in 2015. He concluded his career in 2016 by being named the CUSA’ Most Valuable Defensive Player and a first-team All-CUSA pick on his way to Defensive MVP honors in the East-West Shrine Game and an invitation to the NFL Combine. Hendrickson was a third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by New Orleans and played his first four seasons with the Saints. His career has flourished with the Cincinnati Bengals since 2021, where he became the first Owl to record a sack in the Super Bowl and won the Deacon Jones Award in 2024 after leading the NFL in sacks with 17.5, repeating his effort of 17.5 from 2023. He led the nation in blocked kicks as a senior at FAU, while ranking 21st nationally in sacks and 32nd in tackles for a loss. Setting the school’s single-season record with 13.5 sacks as a junior, Hendrickson was named first-team All-CUSA. The native of Apopka, Fla., received an undergraduate degree in criminal justice from FAU in 2017.
MIKE MCKENNA (2005-2008)
McKenna was one of the most productive players in program history, capping his career in 2008 as the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, an All-American selection by both Collegiate Baseball and Louisville Slugger and one of 50 semifinalists nationwide for the prestigious Golden Spikes Award, presented to the nation’s best college baseball player. At the time of his graduation, no Owl had recorded more career RBI (185) and total bases (444) than McKenna, who remains among the program’s all-time leaders in RBI, total bases, hits (270), home runs (41), batting average (.361) and slugging percentage (.595). He batted .413 and slugged .716 as a junior which ranked 13th and 18th, respectively, in the nation and his .434 average in conference play led the league. McKenna was selected in the 14th round of the 2008 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays. He graduated from FAU in 2010 with a degree in criminal justice and now resides in New York City where he is a police officer for the NYPD.
D’JOUN SMITH (2011-2014)
A two-time CUSA All-Conference performer and the highest NFL drafted player in school history, the versatile Smith starred as both a lock-down defensive back and an explosive kick return specialist in his four years as an Owl. Smith was selected in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft by Indianapolis and played for the Colts, Detroit Lions and Tennessee Titans in his NFL career. He concluded his playing career with stints in the Alliance of American Football and the Arena League. As a senior captain, Smith was second-team All-CUSA as a defensive back and honorable mention as a kick returner along with being tapped the team’s Defensive MVP. That came after a standout junior campaign that saw Smith finish among the national leaders with seven interceptions and a single-season school record 20 passes defended on his way to a first-team All-CUSA nod. Smith played in 44 games in his career with 118 tackles, nine interceptions and his 38 passes defended rank second all-time at FAU. The Miami native graduated from FAU in 2015 with a degree in communication studies.
There are currently 33 members of the FAU Athletics Hall of Fame dating back to the inaugural ceremony in 2006. Voting and nominations are conducted by the FAU Athletics Hall of Fame committee.
