Incoming freshman Andreas Timini, heads back home to compete in the Davis Cup for Cyprus. While alumni Diego Hidalgo and Andy Andrade compete in the same tournament for Ecuador.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Three Gators, two former and one current, will compete in the Davis Cup this week for their respective home countries.
Despite only arriving to The Swamp a few weeks ago, incoming freshman Andreas Timini is headed back home to compete for Cyprus in the Davis Cup. Timini will be the youngest player on Cyprus’ team, at 19-years-old.
Cyprus was placed in World Group II with 23 other countries was chosen to host their opponent Monaco. The tournament will take place outdoors on a hard court with day one starting on Sept. 13 at 10 a.m. EST and the second day taking place on Sept. 14 at the same time.
Former Gators Diego Hidalgo and Andres “Andy” Andrade will both compete for Ecuador in the Davis Cup and will be representing the country for the third straight year. Ecuador was placed in World Group I with 25 other countries.
Ecuador is also playing host to their opponent Bosnia and Herzegovina, and will play outdoors on clay courts. The tournament will start on Sept. 13 at 12 p.m. EST for day one and 11 a.m. EST on Sept. 14 for day two.
