FSU FOOTBALL: Petitbon Named ACC OL of the Week + Castellanos Earns National Honors

TALLAHASSEE – Florida State redshirt senior center Luke Petitbon is the ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week after the Seminoles’ 31-17 victory over No. 8 Alabama to begin the 2025 season.

Petitbon, from Annapolis, Maryland, spearheaded a Florida State offensive line that did not allow a sack for the first time since September 16, 2023. Petitbon played all 63 snaps against the Crimson Tide, as did FSU’s four other starting linemen: RT Micah Pettus, RG Adrian Medley, LG Richie Leonard IV and LT Gunnar Hansen.

Florida State ran for 230 yards and four touchdowns, helping the Noles snap Alabama’s 23-season streak of winning its first game. It was the first time an unranked team ran for four touchdowns in a win against Alabama since 1998, and the first time FSU ran for 230 yards and four touchdowns against a ranked opponent since 2012.

Petitbon finished with an 85 percent job grade and 96 percent effort grade, accounting for seven knockdown blocks and seven blocks that led to either a touchdown or first down.

After the victory Saturday, Florida State jumped to No. 14 in the AP poll. The Seminoles will host East Texas A&M Saturday at noon on ACC Network.

Castellanos Earns National Recognition After Alabama Win

TALLAHASSEE – Florida State senior quarterback Tommy Castellanos is a Manning Award Star of the Week and a Davey O’Brien Great 8 honoree after leading Florida State to a 31-17 win over No. 8 Alabama to begin the 2025 season.

Making his first start for Florida State, Castellanos, from Waycross, Georgia, completed 9-of-14 passes for 152 yards and added a game-high 78 rushing yards on 16 attempts, with one rushing touchdown. He did not commit a turnover in the contest and became the second player to account for at least 150 passing yards and 75 rushing yards in a non-conference game against Alabama in the last 20 seasons, joining Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray in the 2018 Orange Bowl.

Castellanos scored FSU’s first touchdown of the season, a 9-yard run in the first quarter. His touchdown run came after connecting with Squirrel White for a 40-yard completion on 3rd-and-11.

As a team, FSU ran for 230 yards and four touchdowns, and Castellanos led five scoring drives against the Crimson Tide.
